Soi Pattayaland in Central Pattaya, which runs between Pattaya Second Road and Beach Road, is well known for its lively night time entertainment. There are actually three adjoining streets or sois that make up Pattayaland – Soi 1, Soi 2 and Soi 3. The bars in Soi Pattayaland are popular venues at night for the naughty entertainment that the city is famous for. The three streets have a range of bars to suit whatever your preference might be. Besides the regular girlie bars where you can meet Pattaya girls, there are gay bars, ladyboy bars and a few short time bars.

Location and What to expect

Soi Pattayaland 1 (Soi 13/3) can be accessed from the Beach Road or Pattaya Second Road. The street is filled with go go bars and beer bars but also has some regular establishments such as restaurants, shops and even a pharmacy. This is a popular destination for gay nightlife in Pattaya due to the concentration of gay or boy bars on the street. Soi Pattayaland 2 (Soi 13/4) also has access points from Beach Road and Pattaya Second Road. Soi Pattayaland 3 cannot be accessed from the Beach Road. You can reach the street from Pattaya Second Road or through Pattayaland Soi 2. This street, like Soi 1 in Pattayaland, has a large number of gay bars and is a popular destination for gay tourists. It is extremely gay friendly as there is the Boyztown complex with its range of gay bars and nightclubs where you can experience a laidback gay scene. As with the bar girls in the girlie bars, in the gay bars there are several handsome young Thai men to choose from, who are willing to fulfil your every desire. Everything comes at a price. Once you see a boy whom you like, the procedure is similar to that in a girlie bar. You have to buy the boy a drink and then negotiate a rate depending on what ‘service’ you are looking for. Boyztown has plenty of lively entertainment, including cabarets and drag shows featuring male dancers.

Most bars in Soi Pattayaland stay open from 8.00 pm until the early hours of the morning. The official closing time is 2.00 pm, but some bars and go go bars manage to stay open later than that.

What to be cautious about

Remember that prostitution is illegal in Thailand. Whether you are going out with Pattaya bar girls or boys from the gay bars, if you are caught buying sexual favours, you could face imprisonment, irrespective of the form of sex or the gender of your partner.

Also, be aware that engaging in sexual acts with minors is a crime. Since most Thai boys have slim physiques and youthful looks, it is difficult to tell if they are above the age of consent. However, if you have the misfortune of being caught with a minor, you could face imprisonment. Police raids on the gay bars in Pattayaland are common, so watch out for them lest you get caught in the act. You should also be careful with your valuables when you are enjoying a night out in Pattaya, particularly if you take someone to a short time room or back to your hotel.
